Graduate Students

At the graduate level, the Mechanical Engineering program aligns academic course work with research to prepare scholars in specialized areas within the field.

Areas of specialization range from design, energy, fluids, additive & traditional manufacturing, materials, mechanics and controls, and micro/nanotechnology. Through course work and guided research, the program prepares students to make original contributions in Mechanical Engineering and related fields.

Incoming graduate students work one-on-one with faculty who are at the forefront of technological innovation.  The ME faculty at the University of Arkansas hold advanced degrees from institutions such as:

  • Georgia Tech
  • University of Florida
  • Virginia Tech
  • Texas A & M
  • Purdue
  • University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
  • Michigan State
  • UCLA
  • Ohio State University

Many of our faculty spent time as postdoctoral fellows and researchers in both academia and private industry.  Those experiences and opportunities provide ties with national laboratories, such as Sandia, Idaho National and Argonne; universities, like MIT and Northwestern; and industry partners, such as Intel, Pratt & Whitney, General Motors and GE Aircraft.

The innovative faculty of Mechanical Engineering has research expenditures of over $2 million each year and has created multiple startup companies, research centers, and patents.

The department offers MSME (both thesis and non-thesis) and Ph.D. degree programs.  Successful applicants to the program must achieve a minimum GRE score of 154/145/3.0 for admission into the MSME program and 158/149/3.0 for the Ph.D. program.

Admissions to the graduate program are processed directly through the Graduate School.  Click here to apply online.
